Position Information
We are seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate to conduct independent research on herbicide-tolerant sorghum, including screening germplasm and investigating the physiological and molecular mechanisms of herbicide tolerance in the AgriLife Research and Extension Center in Beaumont. Responsibilities also include data analysis, manuscript preparation, grant writing, and work collaboratively in a multicultural work environment.
Responsibilities:
Required Qualifications
- Conducting independent research in herbicide tolerant sorghum
- Investigation of herbicide-tolerant traits in sorghum by screening wide collection of germplasm, mutant lines and wild relatives
- Investigation of/understanding the physiological and molecular mechanisms of herbicide tolerance sorghum and other plant species
- Assistance with writing grant proposals to secure funds from various sources is also expected
- Data analysis, interpret results and writing manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals
- Create an environment that collegiality, and ability to work in a multi-cultural setting
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Ph.D. in Weed Science with emphasis on use of herbicide screening techniques and physiology methods.
- Knowledge and experience in use of herbicides used for weed control in sorghum is essential
- Experience in applying basic plant physiology, and biochemistry techniques in weed science is essential
- Ability to use R statistical program or python is required
- Expectation of experience in computational tools and unix for analyzing and visualizing large data sets
- Demonstrated ability to write clearly and effectively in English
- Demonstrated ability to publish scientific articles in weed science in respected journals.
- Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.
