About This Opportunity 

This is an exciting opportunity for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow/Research Officer to contribute to an interdisciplinary research program, under the supervision of Professor Paula Jarzabkowski and Dr Katie Meissner, evaluating how insurance, insurance pooling, and resilient reconstruction and relocation programs impact individual and community disaster resilience.

You will be responsible for participating in a program of research to evaluate how such programs post disasters impact individual and community resilience across multiple dimensions. The research will have a particular empirical focus on the implications of the Australian Cyclone Pool and the Queensland Resilient Homes Fund.

Key responsibilities will include: 

  • Research: Support a research program, collaborate on and conduct research projects, prepare human ethics submissions, collect, synthesise and analyse research data, assist to seek and manage research funding, publish in reputable journals, utilize best practice research methodologies, prepare and provide research presentations and participate in project discussions.

  • Supervision and Researcher Development: Contribute to the supervision of HDR students, support and manage research staff, provide performance feedback and training, resolve conflicts, and ensure correct remuneration and benefits.

  • Citizenship and Service: Develop partnerships, demonstrate leadership through mentoring, engage in internal service roles and committees, perform administrative functions, provide support to colleagues, and uphold university values.

About You

  • Completion or near completion of a PhD in strategic management, organisational studies/science, management, organisational behaviour, sociology or a related discipline.

  • Demonstrated experience in conducting and analysing qualitative research, including establishing independent relationships with research participants for data collection.

  • Evidence of research activity and publications in high quality journals, relative to opportunity

  • Demonstrated knowledge and expertise in qualitative methodologies, ideally in a multi-stakeholder setting.

  • Some quantitative skills, including survey design and/or analysis, are desirable but not essential.

  • A strong ethic of project delivery and reporting to specification.

  • An ability to and interest in establishing effective relationships with, and to represent and promote the research to scholarly, industry, government and professional bodies.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication, interpersonal skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues from a multidisciplinary background.

The successful candidate may be required to complete a number of pre-employment checks, including: right to work in Australia, education check etc.
